Hello, my glorious readers!

Whether you’re here for the tea, the council chaos, or just because your cousin sent you the link again (hi cousin—appreciate you doing your part to keep this blog alive), I’m seriously glad you’re here.

We’re this close to being fully back in action! And honestly, I’ve been itching to write again. I’m planning to be back in full blog mode right after the Hardin County Fair... assuming life doesn’t throw any more surprise plot twists my way. 😅

And I'm going to be real with you: summer is for sunshine, funnel cake, and a well-earned break from the chaos, at least on my end. Meanwhile, your locally appointed and elected Overlords in Alger and McGuffey are hopefully working on their own cleanup efforts. Good luck to them. 🍀

Blog Glow-Up: New Tabs, Clearer Vibes 🗂️

The more I write, the more I figure out what this space needs to be and where I want it to go. Part of that is making it easier for you to find the content you care about.

So, I’ve added shiny new tabs at the top of the page. Whether you're here for the local council recaps, deep dives into things that make absolutely zero sense at public meetings, or letters from readers with insider views, I’ve got you covered.

One of the new additions? A “Health & Wellness” tab. And no, it’s not some cute little trendy add-on. It’s part of the bigger mission: because if we’re being honest, rural America doesn’t get enough love when it comes to this stuff. We deserve real conversations about what wellness looks like for us.

Let’s Talk Self-Care—Like, the Real Kind 🧠💛

So, when most people hear “self-care,” they picture bubble baths and face masks. And listen, I am pro-bath bomb. Light a candle, vibe out, enjoy the moment.

But real self-care? It goes way deeper than that.

It’s how we process stress, support our mental health, take care of our bodies, and continue to show up for ourselves, even when life gets weird, messy, or downright hard.

And if you’ve ever had a week where your emotions were driving the bus and your brain was hanging on for dear life... yeah. Same.

We’ve all been there. Even the ones who pretend they haven’t.

That’s why I’m carving out space here to talk about it in an open, honest way, without judgment. (because let's be real, some people are way too judgy and we need less of that)I want to discuss what happens when you begin to understand your stress, emotions, and body, because once you do, you can finally take action.

And once you feel that shift? You’ll never want to go back to pretending everything’s fine when it’s not.

Coming Soon: Monthly Wellness Posts 🌿📝

Starting this month, I’m launching a once-a-month Health & Wellness series right here on the blog.

These posts will be packed with:

  • Mental health real talk – because sometimes your brain needs a nap, not a lecture.

  • Physical wellness tips – no diet culture BS, just real tools to feel better in your own skin.

  • Emotional check-ins – what it means to grow emotionally, and how to stop taking everything personally.

  • Self-care that actually works – whether that’s a walk, a journal, or finally making that appointment you’ve been putting off.

This isn’t going to be fluff. This is for people who are tired of surviving and ready to feel actually okay.

It’s for the folks who look like they have it all together but secretly want to throw their phone in a lake and scream into a pillow. And it’s especially for anyone who's been putting everyone else first for years and suddenly realized... they’re running on fumes.

No pressure. No preachiness. Just real help, explained clearly, in plain English.

The Science Bit (Because Yes, I Did My Homework) 🔬📚

Let’s take it from the experts for a sec. According to places like the Mayo Clinic, Harvard Medical School, and Concordia University, carrying around stress and emotional weight affects way more than just your mood.

It can mess with your:

  • 💤 Sleep – insomnia or fatigue for no reason

  • 🛡️ Immune system – getting sick more often

  • 💢 Blood pressure – which adds more stress... It’s a cycle

  • 🧠 Memory & focus – that brain fog? Yeah, it’s real

  • 😩 Mood – feeling angry, anxious, or emotionally worn out

  • 📉 Body – including weight gain/loss and physical tension

Your nervous system keeps the receipts. Even when your brain tries to pretend everything’s fine, your body knows the truth.

And when we don’t give ourselves space to rest, reset, and deal, that stress gets stored, not solved.

So... What Does Real Self-Care Look Like? 🧘‍♀️💥

Here are some actual, real-life self-care moves—simple things that work, no Pinterest board required:

  • 🧠 Therapy or Coaching: Not a weakness—it's support. Everyone deserves that.

  • ✍️ Journaling: A way to organize your thoughts without anyone interrupting you.

  • 🏃‍♀️ Movement: Walk. Stretch. Dance. Lift heavy stuff. Your body wants to move.

  • 🌲 Nature & Grounding: Yes, go outside. Touch a tree. Sit in the grass. It works.

  • 📵 Unplugging: The internet is great, but it can’t fix you. Sometimes, you need to log off and take a breath.

Final Thought: You’re Allowed to Feel Good

Let’s be real: we spend so much time just getting through the day that we forget we’re allowed to actually feel good.

You’re allowed to set your phone down. You’re allowed to skip the drama. You’re allowed to start taking better care of yourself today, not “someday.”

So if you’ve been waiting for a sign to focus on you for once... this is it.

Let’s do this together. 💛

Darling, if you think this is hot, wait until I turn up the heat. 🔥😉
