Wait... Is McGuffey Actually Listening Now?!

Okay, here's a sentence I never thought I'd type: McGuffey is actually listening to people now. And no, I didn't hit my head. This is real.

Once upon a time, our guy had a vibe that was more "you elected me because I know better" than "let's work together, neighbor." You know, the kind of leadership where you speak at a meeting and walk out wondering if your voice even made it past the third pew. However, something has changed, and it's noticeable. It has gotten to the point where even the grapevine is whispering about it.

First clue? The official Facebook page actually asked for public input. Not in a "smile and nod" kind of way, but a real "drop your thoughts below" post. And yes, it's Facebook, so the execution was a little like trying to organize your kitchen with duct tape, but hey, intentions matter. And this time, the intention was: "We want to hear from you."

Second clue? At a council meeting, someone suggested posting ordinances online so that regular people could actually access them. Revolutionary, right? It's one of those "why weren't we already doing this?" kind of moments that makes you blink a few times.

Now, the actual follow-through? Let's talk about that. What we got? Well, it was a photo. Of a list. Of ordinances. Sorted by year. That's it. No clickable links, no search function, just a slightly blurry snapshot you have to zoom in on, like you're analyzing satellite images posted to their official Facebook page.

Here's the thing: it's the thought that counts. Really. This is the first time in a long while it's felt like someone in a position of leadership even thought about accessibility. And while a photo on Facebook isn't exactly the gold standard for transparency, it's at least a toe in the right direction.

Now, if I may hop up on my tiny soapbox for just a sec—promise I won't stay long—let's talk about this whole "putting ordinances online is hard" thing. Friend, I made this blog in under 30 minutes after watching a 10-minute YouTube video. I have absolutely zero web design experience. I didn't pay a dime for hosting. It's free. Is it glamorous? No. Is it functional? You bet your favorite church potluck dessert it is.

And I did it all with a lukewarm cup of coffee in one hand and a half-eaten donut in the other while in my pajamas. (Multitasking is my spiritual gift.)

Now, to be fair, I think government-run websites might need to use a .gov domain. Or at least that's what I remember learning in high school when we were taught how to find "credible sources" for research papers and not just copy-paste from Wikipedia. So, maybe there are hoops to jump through. But even so, there are modern, accessible ways to share information online that don't involve blurry Facebook photos and detective work.

And this isn't a complaint, it's a hopeful suggestion. We can do better. Honestly, it looks like we're on our way.

McGuffey's showing signs of real change, and honestly, I'd love to know if you've noticed it too. We're seeing more practical, people-first ideas float around (putting ordinances online? finally!). It's not perfect, but it feels like we're inching closer to a place where regular folks—you, me, and the neighbor who always brings the good snacks to community meetings—are being heard.

So tell me in the comments: Is this the start of something better, or just a blip on the radar? Have you felt the shift, or are you still waiting to see more? I'd genuinely love to hear your take.

And hey—if you like staying up-to-date with local information that actually affects your life, go ahead and hit the follow button, give the post a like, or subscribe to The McGuffey Voice on Facebook if you haven't already.
