Finally… progress we can scroll through.

It’s been several months now since the Village of McGuffey decided to catch up with the year 2025 and—brace yourselves—actually started using social media. 🎉

That’s right, no more relying on word-of-mouth or hoping you bump into the right person at the gas station to find out what’s going on. The village is now using Facebook to post updates, collect feedback from residents, and share event info, so we’re not all tossing dates at the wall and hoping something sticks.

Is it perfect yet? Not exactly. The livestream feature? Still a bit of a mystery. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, and sometimes it just ghosts us like a bad ex. But hey, they’re trying—and honestly, that’s more than we’ve seen in a long time.

This new effort represents a significant improvement over the old “we’ll make the decision, then maybe tell you later” style of operation. They’re experimenting with something radical: actually asking the public what they think. That’s a bold move in a town where most folks have had to dig for info like it’s buried treasure behind the water plant.

That said, while the effort is genuinely appreciated, the tone of some posts could use some refinement. At times, it leans just a bit more “pep rally announcement” than “professional government update.” No shade—enthusiasm is great! But adding a little polish could help people take the messaging more seriously and feel confident that things are being handled with care.

And look—we know some folks are perfectly comfortable with how things are. They trust the system, they like how it’s run, and they don’t see a reason to change this pep rally vibe. That’s fine. However, many residents don’t feel confident in the government, and this new communication push has the potential to build genuine trust—if it’s done right. That means clarity, consistency, and yes, sometimes answering hard questions without the filters, emojis, or parade float energy. Disclaimer & Life Update: As always, this post includes both factual updates and personal commentary. If you're new here, welcome to The McGuffey Voice, where we cover local news with a bit of personality (because let’s be honest—it needs it).

Also, heads up: blog posts may be a bit shorter than usual for a while. Real life has decided to hit “expert mode,” and like many of you, I’m juggling more than just screen time. So if you see a few quick hits instead of deep dives, know I haven’t vanished—I’m just human. A tired, sarcastic, trying-to-make-it-work human.

Thanks for reading, following, and understanding. And don't forget to return to the Facebook page and like, comment, share, or follow!
