The Truth Behind the Talk

The past few weeks have been wild! My blog wasn’t named in the local paper, but let’s be real—we are all pretty sure they were talking about me and my so-called “slanderous ways.” So, let’s clear the air so I can get back to being the “crazy lady” who digs into local government, requests public records, and educates people on civics. (Honestly, I take that as a compliment.)
About Interviews & My Writing Style
Since my “slanderous” blog post, I’ve gotten interview requests. Let me be clear: I don’t usually accept them. If I need an interview, I’ll ask for it. My posts are scheduled in advance, so last-minute changes aren’t practical and only happen if needed.
The disclaimer—which, for some reason, offended someone apparently— Most blogs have one; they just don’t include it in every post, so you have to go looking for it. I don’t like hunting for that kind of info, so I choose to put mine on every post. And honestly, given that the blog post in question had someone so upset they threatened to "own my whole world" over free speech, I think it’s a smart move.
As for my writing style—this isn’t a newspaper; it’s a blog, and I'm not a trained journalist. (Surprise!) I write how I want when I want. Some weeks, it’s professional; other weeks, it’s casual. I also suggest researching what is called citizen journalism, that would be the closest thing I fall under news related, and it has its pros and cons that I encourage all my readers to look into. It is also why I encourage my readers to do their own research.
And my name? It was on here, at least for PC viewers—until someone in the comments made it way too easy for strangers to find my home address. (remember, it’s the internet it’s not just you seeing this)
If I remember right, over 50% of women will have a stalker by the age of 25—and I was one of those women. It’s an experience I never want to repeat, so let’s not find a way to make it happen again, okay? If you know who I am, keep it off the internet. And if you don’t care about my privacy/safety, imagine if it were your daughter or wife—someone just posted enough info for strangers to track their home address, with others cheering it on. Bet you’d be furious.
Comments & Reactions
No, I don’t delete comments. I don’t even read most of them. If yours is gone, it probably broke platform rules, or you removed it yourself.
Here’s the deal: If you post something dumb online, that’s on you. We’re all adults—manage your emotions. If my posts make you mad, scroll past. Sometimes my writing sparks change, sometimes it sparks outrage. Either way, I’m not changing my approach.
Why I Don’t Attend Council Meetings
Simple: Have you watched our council meetings?! In my opinion, they are cringeworthy, and most of the people there have no real desire to change how things are run. If they were serious about making real changes, I’d expect them to take the online Sunshine Law class (which, as far as I know, is now self-paced and legally required), attend municipal league training, and learn from similar towns that actually have their act together.
And I’d imagine there would be real consequences for those connected to the government who behaved the way they did in retaliation to this blog page. (And yes, the Mayor was e-mailed about it)
If they are doing these things, they sure aren’t talking about it.
Why I’m Not on Council
I’ve tried—twice. First, I ran for mayor, but I didn’t put much effort into it because I ended up supporting the guy who won. Later, when he took office, I realized his political views were very different from mine.
Then, I ran for council, but health issues kept me from finishing my petition. It took me nearly two years to recover, and only now am I finally getting to a point where I can do things without those health issues holding me back.
Now, with House Bill 331, my view has shifted. I support dissolving McGuffey—I believe it’s best for residents. But if you disagree, that’s fine. Just don’t be a jerk about it.
That said, people still deserve to know what’s happening. The council talks a lot but rarely follows through. Some members seem to be in it for a paycheck, others just want to feel important, and one or two might genuinely be trying—but one person can’t fix a broken system alone.
Is Something Illegal Happening in McGuffey?
I have no idea. Here's what I think: we’re a small town with a lot of pride, and sometimes that pride gets in the way. Instead of admitting there’s more to learn, some folks just double down on what they think they know. Few might even just be using this as a way to work the system threw loop wholes. Others, I believe, are simply afraid of making mistakes in public and how it might affect their reputation. But here’s the thing—everyone who has ever accomplished anything has messed up along the way. If they let the fear of what others think hold them back, they wouldn’t be the person they are today.
Final Thoughts
I’m going to keep doing what I do—requesting documents, questioning the government, and sharing information. If that makes me “crazy,” so be it.
I know this page can be a little confusing since it started out news related. That’s because I’m still figuring out how to make this all fit together. As Jake the Dog wisely said, “Being bad at something is the first step to being kinda good at something.” I’m new to this, and a lot of the technology I’m using is unfamiliar to me. So, this is a learning process.
For those trying to embarrass me since the park post—go ahead. I outgrew that back in high school. Words don’t bother me, and all you’ve really done is bring more attention to my page. So, thanks for the extra views!
And just to be clear. If you can’t tell the difference between this and a traditional news page, that’s on you. I try to be as transparent as possible, but at the end of the day, I’m not perfect. And honestly? That’s what makes me wonderful, and in true conservative fashion, it’s your personal responsibility to decide whether you want to keep up with me or put your trust in the local government. The choice is yours.
That said, I’m taking a short break to catch up on real-life responsibilities. I’ll be back in a week or two—hopefully with a podcast!
